Manly Scenic Walkway, Spit Bridge to Sandy Bay temporary closure

From 7.00am Monday 15 October 2007, a section of the Manly Scenic Walkway will be closed to all pedestrian traffic. Previously advised bridge repair works have been rescheduled, due to a change in the scope of works, to commence now on:

Start Date Monday 15th October 2007

Estimated Finish Date: Friday 19th October 2007 (subject to weather)

Working Hours: 7:00am to 5:00pm (day work)

The expected works will involve the total replacement of the existing foot-bridge timber deck including planks, posts and handrails with similar materials and in the same style. These works are needed to replace the deteriorated and weakened timbers and to ensure the ongoing serviceability, safety and lifespan of this essential infrastructure. Work will also be undertaken to repair the track surface which is in decline and install a section of metal walkway over an Aboriginal midden to protect it from further damage.

During the works the bridges/path along this section of walkway will be closed to all pedestrian traffic. Signs indicating alternative routes will be clearly signposted and installed before and until works are completed and the bridge reopened.

Every effort will be taken by Council to complete the works within the above nominated dates depending on weather conditions and any unforseen circumstances. Council apologises for any inconvenience caused and appreciates your cooperation.
